From photo to painting: how our dog portraits are made

Curious what happens after you upload a photo? Here's the honest, step-by-step of how we turn a dog photo into a painted portrait.

People often ask whether we're using a photo filter. The honest answer: no. Your dog isn't filtered — it's re-created as art, using the photo you upload as the reference.

Here's exactly what happens from the moment you hit upload.

Step 1: You upload a photo

You pick a clear photo of your dog and drop it in. JPG, PNG, or WebP, up to 10 MB. A clear, well-lit face shot gives the best result.

Step 2: You choose a style

Classic oil, watercolour, a regal throne room, a playful scene — you pick the look. Each style has its own palette and mood, so the same dog can become anything from a noble portrait to a cheeky cartoon.

Step 3: You preview it free

We generate a watermarked preview so you can see exactly how it looks before committing. Not right? You get 2 free tries to regenerate or switch styles.

Step 4: You pay for the finished piece

Happy with the preview? Pay to unlock the clean, high-resolution 4K file — no watermark. From there you can download it, or print it on a mug, canvas, framed print, or metal.

Step 5: We print and ship

If you choose a print, it's made to order and ships to the US, Canada, the UK, Australia, New Zealand and Europe, usually arriving in 5–14 days depending on the country. Every order starts with your approved portrait, so what you saw is exactly what prints.

The part we're proud of

The whole point of the free preview is that you never gamble. You see your dog as art before you spend a cent — and only pay when it feels like them.
